Russia’s S7 Group to change name into S7 AirSpace Corporation

MOSCOW, Dec 24 (PRIME) -- Russia’s S7 Group, comprising Siberia Airlines and Globus, plans to change its name into S7 AirSpace Corporation becoming the country’s first aerospace company, a spokesperson of S7 group told PRIME late on December 21.

S7 closed an acquisition of the Sea Launch spacecraft launch service, including the maritime platform Odyssey, in April. S7 CEO Sergei Sopov said earlier that the combined amount of investment in purchase and de-preservation of the facility would reach about U.S. $150 million.

The company plans to carry out 70 commercial launches from the platform in the next 15 years, and S7 even announced plans to create its own reusable launcher rocket Soyuz-7 basing on state space corporation Roscosmos’ Soyuz-5 rocket that is under development. The company also wants to enter a concession deal over the Russian segment of International Space Station.
